MY HOME KOTA KINABALU : SABAH FEST MAY 2009

In view of Sabah's Harvest Festival this month of May, I would like to pay tribute to my state's many diverse cultures and arts via blogger.

Sabah is made up of over 40 ethnic groups, each special and unique in traditions and ways which makes Sabah a very colorful place to call home. To its beautiful Kadazan-Dusun 'sumandaks' (ladies) raising their arms to the side in a bird like flight dancing to an up beat music of gongs to the soulful, morbid sounds of the 'Bobohizan' (native priestess) chanting a ritual, culture in Sabah is anything but dull...

This year Sabah Fest 2009 was held at Magellan Sutera Harbour's grand ballroom on the 2nd~4th May. I was lucky enough to catch the finale on the last day! I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of Sabah Fest this year (props to the organizer Sabah Tourism Board) with its many fairy-lights and different exhibition booths of different cultures around Sabah. Undeniably the BEST Sabah Fest I have seen in years! The cultural performances for the night were as Russel Peters say 'MIND-BLASTING' and they wrapped it all up with 'Sayang Kinabalu' which I jovially sang along with the performers.

On another note, I proudly present my fill of the photos that Tim & I took from Sabah Fest 2009... enjoy!

All in all, it was an extravagant night and a one to be proud of for years to come!

Thanks for visiting!
