TRAVEL DESTINATION : SINGAPORE 2008

Hey Travel Enthusiasts!

SINGAPORE! What wouldn't I give to travel there every month... With its never ending SALES SALES SALES and convenient MRT's...
(Dreaming...)

Ahem... (Wakes) Besides traveling off and on for business, I find Singapore a country filled with major tourist attractions and all at a reasonable price + tourist friendly too! My first visit to Singapore was 3years ago for 2weeks on leisure with my family. At first, I went with no preparations whatsoever and spent the first part of my holiday walking along Orchard Road with my mom without a clue on the tourist attractions I was missing. Luckily, I found a Singapore Tourism booth and caught myself in a situation where I normally find most tourists in Sabah do, frenziedly plucking brochures after brochures off racks. My eyes sparkled as I said to myself "I gotta see this and that!", by the time I exited the booth I have planned my itinerary to a T and out of sheer excitement I started exploring the next day! By the end of my holiday, sadly I did not bring a camera, I was left with a determination to visit again.

And I did in September 2008! Moreover, with no problems with accommodation as I always stay with my Aunt I in Khatib which saved me a bunch as I knew how expensive was accommodation in Singapore, a visit with my hubby was a long awaited expedition. The trip was right after our wedding in July. Therefore, besides the conventional, Singapore was like our Honeymoon with family as we were traveling with my mom, mom's friend and Bro J! And I wouldn't have it any other way!

With that said, I would like to share with you our 9Days 8Nights Honeymoon in Singapore detailed itinerary... with pictures on this trip (of course).

Day 1 (11th Sept 08)
We were lucky to be booked on for '0'Fare flights to Johor Bahru from Kota Kinbalu on Airasia 4months before the trip which costs RM128per person return. We arrived in Johor at approximately 1210hrs and took a mini van, which my mom prebooked a week before (S$70), all the way to my aunt's apartment in Khatib. I find that going to Singapore with a Taxi is much more expensive than via bus but much more convenient! As I have experienced entering Sing via bus and lugging around my luggage off and on the bus was not a lovely experience, take my word on this one. Go via Taxi! It makes a HUGE difference. Upon our arrival at my aunt's, we unpacked and freshened up for lunch at a local restaurant just a street across. We had a filling S$4 lunch of BBQ Pork with rice (price including Coca-Cola)... Mmm Sumptuous! After lunch, we headed down to the MRT station and got Tim hooked up on a brand new MRT Card costing S$15 (S$10 refundable for the card which we kept as a souvenir and S$5 as credit) and headed down to Orchard Road for a bit of Window Shopping! In Orchard, we headed to a familiar shopping mall which I frequented 3years ago, I call it 'Takashimaya Mall' self dubbed... This season the mall had a Mooncake Festival Tasting Extravaganza. An interesting fact that no one seems to be purchasing any mooncakes but testing the bits and pieces of mooncakes from one stall after the other! Another Singaporean habit, I guess... I quickly blended in and tested some on my own too! Teehee... In the evening, we headed back to Khatib for dinner and some R&R preparing for the next day. I only managed to window shop on Day1 as I knew we had a lot of time for real shopping on our last few days.

Day 2 (12th Sept 08)
(Good Morning) as I looked outside the window and noticed that it was drizzling throughout the night. Bro J, Tim and I had plans to visit the Science Centre + Snow City today. So, no stranger to the change in weather, at 9am we brought an umbrella from home and headed down via MRT from Khatib Station to Jurong East Station on the East West Line. Just a little info to Travel Enthusiasts, the Singapore Science Centre operating hours are from 10am to 6pm (closed on Mondays) and if one is planning to buy a package with the Snow City it operates from 9.45am to 5.15pm (closed on Mondays) - please allow 30minutes to get your rented jacket, shoes and gloves on. Also, if one is planning to visit the Snow City, please remember to wear long pants/jeans as it is required at the SC. If you hadn't, you would have to rent a pair at an additional cost and bring an extra pair as you WILL get wet (guaranteed). As we alighted at Jurong East Station, we were a bit turned around as we did not see a Science Centre sign in sight so we looked at a posted map at the station and realized a bunch of people were walking across the street to a mall. Adventurous we followed behind and found ourselves outside a small shopping area with stalls selling trinkets for a bargain price. Note: Do not even try to ask the stall sellers where the Science Centre is as they are mostly foreign workers and hardly speak any English. Dismayed, we walked past them and we spotted a waterdrop sign across a traffic light. Luckily, we have found the Science Centre! with its newly opened exhibit "Dino World, Water Conservation Exhibition and a F1 Fever Exhibit". Upon arriving at the Centre at 11am, we decided to have a quick late Breakfast at McD's and the atmosphere was magical as we sat outdoors next to a Physic Garden with swings and a dancing fountain. After we queued at the ticketing counter and purchased 3tickets which included the "Entrance Fee to the Science Centre and Snow City" costing S$18per person inclusive 1hour snow play, booths, gloves and jacket. NOTE: The Science Centre has 3 different buildings consisting of Main Science Centre, IMAX Theater and Snow City. One could purchase tickets to Science Centre+IMAX / SC+Snow City / SC Only. Prices can be had at www.science.edu.sg . I found Singapore Science Centre to be very educational and a fun place for Adults and Children alike. After, we headed down to the Snow City which I found a bit disappointing as it was smaller than what I expected and it only houses a slope + small play area. However, there is a first for everything! My experience was that I froze my behind off in the artificial snow as the temperature was below 0Cel. Crazy cold especially for a tropic girl... Brrr... Holy Balls of Snow...maybe never again! Do Not Enter if you suffer from Asthma related ailments. Also NOTE: At the Snow City, one can leave bags in small lockers provided (prepare S$1 coin refundable) no belongings are allowed in the play area.

Enough said, I will let my pictures tell the rest of the story on the attractions at the Science Centre and Snow City...
